INEC Confirms Readiness for 2027 Elections, Finalizes Timetable.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that preparations for the 2027 general elections are on track, with the election timetable and schedule of activities already completed.

Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan disclosed that the Commission finalized the timetable despite ongoing delays in the amendment of the Electoral Act by the National Assembly.

According to him, INEC has submitted its recommendations to lawmakers and is currently waiting for legislative action on the proposed amendments.

Prof. Amupitan noted that while the timetable is ready, some activities may need adjustment depending on when the amended Electoral Act is eventually passed and signed into law.

He, however, reassured stakeholders that INEC remains fully committed to conducting a credible, transparent, and lawful election.

Until any new law comes into effect, the Commission said it will continue to operate strictly within the framework of the existing Electoral Act.
