APC Releases Timeline for 2025/2026 Congresses, National Convention
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has made public a detailed timetable for its nationwide ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, which will climax with a National Convention scheduled for early 2026.
The timetable, endorsed by the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, laid out a carefully structured two-month process set to begin in December 2025.
According to the schedule issued from the party’s Buhari House National Secretariat, activities will kick off with a Membership E-Registration exercise, slated to run from Monday, 1st December 2025 to Friday, 30th January 2026.
Key Highlights of the Schedule:
· Ward & LGA Congresses: Elections at the Ward level are fixed for Saturday, 14th February 2026, while Local Government Area Congresses will follow on Thursday, 19th February 2026. Each LGA is expected to elect three delegates to the National Convention, one of whom must be female.
· State Congresses: Elections into State Executive Committees are scheduled to hold on Saturday, 7th March 2026.
· Zonal Congresses: These are billed for Saturday, 21st March 2026, across the six geopolitical zones, with venues in Ibadan (South West), Enugu (South East), Rivers/Cross River (South South), Kaduna (North West), Gombe/Bauchi (North East), and Nasarawa (North Central).
· National Convention: The concluding event, during which the party’s national officers will be elected, is planned for Wednesday, 25th to Saturday, 28th March 2026.
The timetable further provides for periods covering the sale of nomination forms, screening of aspirants, and the constitution of appeal committees at every level to address disputes.
The exercise, conducted in line with Articles 11 and 17 of the APC Constitution, is regarded as vital to the emergence of new party leaders nationwide and the shaping of the party’s direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.
