INTRODUCTION
It is with deep gratitude and joy that I address my constituents today, reflecting on the journey we have travelled together over these past two and a half years since they elected me to represent them in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
The mandate entrusted to me is a covenant of service, anchored in trust, guided by principle, and committed to the welfare of every citizen of our federal constituency. This mandate exists within the broader national framework, shaped by the Renewed Hope Agenda of our party, the All Progressives Congress, and implemented through the policies of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Public office, as I have come to understand more deeply with each passing day, is fundamentally about service—service to the people, to the nation, and to the principles that give governance its moral compass. The constituents entrusted me with their voice, and I have, to the best of my ability, carried that voice with the reverence and responsibility it deserves.
THE NATIONAL CONTEXT: ECONOMIC REFORMS AND NATION-BUILDING
At the national level, President Tinubu inherited an economy teetering on the brink of collapse. Decades of subsidies drained our resources, enriching a few while infrastructure deteriorated. Multiple exchange rates encouraged rent-seeking and corruption. Debt obligations consumed nearly every available resource, leaving little for development.
Addressing this reality required courage, foresight, and difficult decisions. The fuel subsidy was removed. Exchange rates were unified. The tax system is being restructured to ensure fairness and inclusivity. These decisions were challenging—political convenience would have been easier, but it would have come at the expense of national survival.
These reforms are yielding results. A unified exchange rate has restored market confidence. Inflation is being curtailed. Interest rates and other macroeconomic variables are improving and more predictable, all creating the conditions for upward movement of our Gross Domestic Product. These steps and others have rekindled confidence toward more sustainable development. Our economy has truly turned a corner.
The National Assembly, under the distinguished leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, and Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., has continued to partner with the Executive to translate these reforms into tangible benefits for our people.
We must acknowledge that the nation is going through difficult times. The economic pressure is real, and many families feel it every day. Insecurity continues to disrupt lives and livelihoods in several communities. Structural reforms, by their nature, take time before their benefits are fully felt. Yet with sustained resilience, steady commitment to these necessary changes, and our shared resolve, we will push through this challenging period. The foundation being laid today will bring stability and prosperity to our people. I am confident that better days lie ahead and that these tough times will surely pass.
OGUN STATE: A MODEL OF PROGRESSIVE GOVERNANCE
Here in Ogun State, we have been fortunate to witness governance pursued with strategic vision and remarkable results. His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, MFR, has delivered the Gateway International Airport in Iperu-Remo—Sub-Saharan Africa’s first fully operational airport city and logistics hub—widening the frontier for industry and commerce in our state. Our road network is expanding with critical links. Healthcare and educational facilities have been renewed and upgraded. Agricultural value chains are stronger, and revenue generation has grown in a measured and consistent manner. Together, these developments have shaped a socio-economic architecture that reinforces our standing as the true Gateway to Nigeria’s economic capital, a state where investors see promise and where our people see endless possibilities.
OUR FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY: A RECORD OF PURPOSEFUL REPRESENTATION
Within our federal constituency, the past two years have been defined by focused legislative work and consistent community engagement. We have developed a comprehensive economic development plan that serves as a strategic roadmap for our quantum leap in socio-economic transformation. We have promoted legislation to establish an industrial facility that will serve as a springboard for industrial development in our area and secured provision in the 2025 budget for the feasibility and technical viability study for the proposed Agro-Processing Facility in the constituency.
Across all 21 wards, we have executed projects and facilitated empowerment programs, including a state-of-the-art police station in Ebute-Igbooro, a six-classroom block in Ayetoro, and the first Computer-Based Testing center in Imeko-Afon. We have sponsored bills and motions, facilitated business partnerships, and maintained steady advocacy on matters affecting our people.
The specifics of our interventions and constituency projects cut across infrastructure, health, education, security, water provision, power supply, technology, employment creation, and skills acquisition. Without sounding immodest, I believe we have given a good account of ourselves. Over and above, I know it can only get better as we deepen this legislative work and expand our impact.
CONSTITUENCY PROJECTS: SECTORAL INTERVENTIONS
EDUCATION SECTOR
In the education sector, we have completed the following interventions:
Construction of 2 Blocks of 3 Classrooms with full facilities at Ansarudeen Primary School 1, Ayetoro, located in Ayetoro II ward, Yewa North Local Government. This modern educational infrastructure has significantly improved the learning environment and increased enrollment capacity in the community.
Renovation of Schools across three strategic locations: the school at Iwoye Ketu in Iwoye/Jabata ward, Imeko-Afon Local Government; the school at Ijale Ketu in Ijoun ward, Yewa North Local Government; and the school at Ijaka Oke in Sunwa ward, Yewa North Local Government. These renovations included structural repairs, provision of furniture, painting, and upgrading of facilities to create conducive learning environments.
Construction of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Center at Nazareth High School, Imeko, Imeko-Afon Local Government. This ongoing project represents the first CBT center in the local government area and will provide students with access to modern examination technology, preparing them for computer-based national examinations.
Foundation Laying for Eight Additional Classroom Blocks across the constituency, demonstrating our commitment to sustained educational infrastructure development. These projects, currently at foundation stage, are located at: Owode-Ketu (Igua ward, Yewa North); Imasayi (Imasayi ward, Yewa North); Abule Oke (Ibese ward, Yewa North); Ijaka Isale (Sunwa ward, Yewa North); Okuta (Oke-Agbede/Moriwi/Matale ward, Imeko-Afon); Owode/Idi-Ayin (Owode/Idi-Ayin ward, Imeko-Afon); Muslim Grammar School, Imeko (Imeko ward, Imeko-Afon); and Alagbe (Ilara/Alagbe ward, Imeko-Afon).
HEALTHCARE DELIVERY
In the healthcare sector, we have completed the following:
Renovation of Primary Health Center at Agberiodo, located in Kajola/Agberiodo ward, Imeko-Afon Local Government.
Renovation and Equipping of Primary Health Center at Agbon Ojodu in Ohunbe ward, Yewa North Local Government. Beyond structural renovation, this project included provision of modern medical equipment and supplies, significantly improving healthcare delivery in the area.
These healthcare interventions have enhanced access to primary healthcare services for thousands of residents, particularly women, children, and the elderly who rely on these facilities as their first point of contact with the healthcare system.
More importantly, we have also facilitated medical outreaches that benefitted not less than 5000 Constituents.
We had the first and second Medical Outreach in Eggua, Yewa North in August 2024 and then in Ilara, Imeko-Afon LG, August 2024
We also had the third and fourth medical outreach in Ayetoro, Yewa North LG and Imeko in Imeko Afon LG, December 2025
WATER AND SANITATION
Recognizing the critical importance of access to clean, potable water, we have completed the following:
Provision of Six Solar-Powered Boreholes in strategic locations across the constituency. In Yewa North Local Government, boreholes were installed at Ayetoro (Ayetoro I ward), Iboro (Iboro/Joga ward), and Ibeku (Ibeku ward). In Imeko-Afon Local Government, similar installations were completed at Oniji (Imeko ward), Afon (Afon ward), and Alakuta (Ilara ward).
POWER AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE
In the power sector, we have completed the following:
Provision and Installation of Four High-Capacity Transformers in communities that had either never been connected to the national grid or suffered from inadequate power supply. Transformers were installed at Ayetoro Community (Ayetoro I ward, Yewa North), Oja Odan Community (Ebute/Igbooro ward, Yewa North), Ilara Community (Ilara/Alagbe ward, Imeko-Afon), and Oke-Agbede Community (Oke-Agbede/Moriwi/Matale ward, Imeko-Afon).
Each transformer installation was accompanied by necessary distribution infrastructure, including poles, cables, and service connections to households and businesses, thereby catalyzing economic activities in these communities.
Commissioning of 10kva Mini-Power Station and Internet Facility at Oloruntele, Imeko ward, Imeko-Afon Local Government. This hybrid solution provides both reliable electricity and internet connectivity, addressing two critical infrastructure gaps simultaneously and positioning the community for digital-age opportunities.
We have also provided over 1000 Solar Lights accross the Constituency
SECURITY INFRASTRUCTURE
In the security sector, we have completed the following:
Construction of Modern Police Divisional Office at Oja Odan, Yewa North Local Government. This state-of-the-art facility includes office spaces, detention facilities, residential quarters for officers, and ancillary facilities designed to enhance the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in our constituency.
ROADS AND TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE
In the road infrastructure sector, we have completed the following:
Construction of 1.58 Kilometers of Road in Imeko town, Imeko ward, Imeko-Afon Local Government.
LEGISLATIVE MILESTONES
BILLS SPONSORED
As a federal legislator, I have sponsored six bills that directly address developmental challenges facing our constituency and the nation. These legislative initiatives demonstrate our commitment to systemic change and long-term development:
1. A Bill for an Act to Establish Agro-Processing and Export Free Trade Zone, Yewa North-Imeko Afon (HB 219)
Status: 3rd Reading – Bill passed by the House of Representatives, awaiting Senate concurrence.
This groundbreaking legislation seeks to create an industrial hub that will transform agricultural produce from across the region into exportable finished and semi-finished goods. When operational, this free trade zone will attract investment, create thousands of jobs, enhance agricultural value chains, and position our constituency as a center of agro-allied industrial activity. We have also secured provision in the 2025 federal budget for feasibility and technical viability studies for this facility.
2. A Bill for an Act to Establish Federal Institute of Technical and Vocational Education, Imeko, Ogun State (HB 506)
Status: 3rd Reading – Bill passed by the House of Representatives, awaiting Senate concurrence.
This institution will address the critical gap in technical and vocational education in our region, providing young people with practical skills in various trades and technical fields. In an economy increasingly driven by skills and innovation, this institution will produce graduates who are job creators rather than mere job seekers.
3. A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal College of Education (Technical) Eggua, Egbado North, Ogun State (HB 1933)
Status: Scaled 2nd Reading – to be fixed for Public Hearing.
This bill seeks to expand access to quality teacher education with emphasis on technical subjects, addressing the shortage of qualified technical education teachers in Nigeria.
4. Scholarship Regulation Bill, 2024 (HB 1843)
Status: Scaled 2nd Reading – to be fixed for Public Hearing.
This legislation seeks to create a more transparent, equitable, and efficient system for administering scholarship programs at the federal level, ensuring that deserving students, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, can access higher education.
5. Nigerian Neighborhood Watch and Community Service Corps (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (HB 1839)**
Status: Scaled 2nd Reading – to be fixed for Public Hearing.
This bill provides a legal and institutional framework for community-based security initiatives, recognizing that effective security requires active participation of community members working in partnership with conventional law enforcement agencies.
6. The Statistics Act (Repeal and Enactment) Bill, 2025 (HB 2491)
Status: Scaled 2nd Reading – to be fixed for Public Hearing.
This bill seeks to modernize Nigeria’s statistical system, ensuring that government policies and programs are based on accurate, timely, and comprehensive data.
POLICY ADVOCACIES
Beyond legislation and constituency projects, I have maintained vigorous advocacy on critical policy issues:
Advocacy Against Further Increases in the Monetary Policy Rate (May 2024): I publicly advocated against excessive tightening of monetary policy, arguing that it would stifle productive economic activity, particularly affecting small and medium enterprises that are the backbone of our economy. While monetary discipline is necessary to combat inflation, there must be careful balance to avoid pushing the economy into recession.
Advocacy for Increase in Nigeria’s Education Budget to 15% of Total Annual Budget: I have consistently called for increased allocation to education in line with international benchmarks and UNESCO recommendations. Through floor speeches, media engagements, and direct advocacy, I continue to press for increased investment in this critical sector.
Call for Repositioning Technical and Vocational Education in Nigeria: I have championed the need to reform our educational system to produce graduates with practical skills demanded by the economy. This includes advocacy for curriculum reforms, increased funding for technical education institutions, partnerships between educational institutions and industries, and a shift in societal attitudes toward vocational education.
VALUES, CHARACTER, AND LEGACY
As I reflect on this journey, I am reminded of something fundamental: the delivery of projects and passage of legislation, while important, cannot solely define our legacy. The most critical investments we make are not necessarily in concrete and steel but in the values we uphold and the character we demonstrate.
This conviction has grown deeper with each session in the National Assembly, with each moment when the path of expediency beckoned while the path of principle demanded more. A popular maxim says, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” These words speak to the courage required to uphold principles when pressures mount, to choose the difficult right over the easy wrong, and to measure success by moral contribution rather than material accumulation alone.
Yet courage finds its fullest expression when it is met with shared commitment from those we serve. This reciprocal responsibility binds leader and citizen in common purpose. Principled leadership flourishes when leaders embody it with courage and constancy and when citizens value it, demand it, and safeguard it against the forces of compromise and expediency. We must inspire a generation that cherishes truth, protects values, and places tomorrow’s destiny above today’s temptations. This is the only way to ensure that the infrastructure we build is maintained, the institutions we strengthen are sustained, and the progress we make is preserved for those who will inherit this land.
The representation and leadership we embrace must reflect the values we cherish, the competencies we desire, and the character we uphold. These principles form the bedrock of good governance, requiring integrity in both those who govern and those who entrust them with power.
LOOKING FORWARD: OUR SHARED FUTURE
I truly believe that Nigeria’s greatest days are still ahead and that Ogun State can continue to be a shining example of excellence. But our finest chapter will be written only when we find the wisdom to prepare for it, the courage to pursue it, and the discipline to work toward it, even when the path is difficult.
The power to choose the direction of our future belongs to us. The quality of that future depends entirely on the decisions we make today, the standards we accept, and the leaders we empower.
I will continue to give my complete commitment to the people of Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency. I remain accountable to them, measured by the consistency of my presence, the sincerity of my advocacy, the resilience I demonstrate at all times, and the depth of my dedication.
This is the covenant we made. This is the future we build together. This is the legacy we will leave.
