Foiled Coup Plot: I Was Marked for Arrest, Planned to Be Shot — Defence Chief

Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has disclosed that he was a prime target in a foiled coup plot and would have been shot if he resisted arrest by the plotters.

Gen. Musa made the revelation while speaking on the circumstances surrounding the alleged plot, stating that intelligence reports showed he had been marked for immediate arrest as part of the plan to destabilise the country. According to him, the plotters had resolved to eliminate him if he refused to cooperate during the attempted takeover.

He said the timely intervention of security agencies and the vigilance of the Armed Forces prevented the plot from being executed, stressing that Nigeria’s democracy was protected through coordinated intelligence gathering and swift action.

The Defence Chief reaffirmed the loyalty of the Armed Forces to the Constitution and the elected government, warning that the military would not tolerate any attempt to undermine democratic rule. He also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and to support security agencies with credible information, noting that threats to national stability often begin with small but coordinated actions.

Gen. Musa assured that the military remains committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s unity and sovereignty, adding that those behind the foiled coup plot would be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice.
