In a video shared on Facebook on Thursday, Niger Delta activist and Kalabari chieftain, Asari Dokubo, spoke on the presence of American troops in Nigeria, describing their deployment as part of a coordinated effort to tackle insecurity and banditry across the country.

According to Dokubo, “I will join Americans in tracking down these people for the good and safety of Nigeria,” a statement he made while addressing concerns surrounding the involvement of U.S. forces reportedly sent by President Donald Trump to support Nigeria’s security operations.

He explained that his position is based on cooperation rather than submission, stressing that the American troops are working alongside Nigerian authorities and not acting independently.

According to him, any support aimed at confronting bandits and violent groups should be welcomed if it respects Nigeria’s sovereignty and command structure.

Dokubo noted that insecurity has caused immense suffering for ordinary Nigerians, particularly in rural communities affected by banditry and violent attacks.

According to him, extraordinary challenges sometimes require collaboration, especially when such cooperation can help save lives and restore stability.

He further stated that his willingness to work with foreign partners does not contradict his earlier warnings against forceful or disrespectful intervention.

According to Dokubo, the key difference lies in consent, coordination, and respect for Nigeria’s institutions.

The Niger Delta activist also emphasized that local knowledge and intelligence remain critical to any successful security effort. According to him, those who understand the terrain and the people must play a central role in identifying and neutralizing threats.

Dokubo further stated that the ultimate goal of any collaboration must be the protection of Nigerians and the restoration of peace, adding that security efforts should always prioritize the safety, dignity, and unity of the country.
