BREAKING: EFEB 2026: FG SET TO IMPLEMENT 5% FUEL TAX

According to insider reports, the Federal Government is set to implement a 5% fuel tax. The tax was originally introduced during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and not by the Tinubu administration.
The levy was designed as a replacement for toll gates previously mounted on Nigeria’s highways. A reliable but anonymous source within the Presidency disclosed that the implementation is expected to begin in February next year.
The levy was conceived as a road maintenance funding mechanism, meant to replace physical toll gates on federal highways and ensure a steady source of revenue for road repairs and infrastructure. Rather than charging motorists at specific points, the cost is embedded in fuel consumption, spreading the burden across road users.
