As Senator Ibikunle Amosun celebrates his birthday, he has also made a decisive political move by declaring his intention to return to the Senate, representing Ogun Central. This declaration has once again brought him to the centre of conversations shaping the political future of Ogun State.
In one of my earlier pieces—published on The News and shared across my social media platforms—I stated clearly that the governorship of Ogun State in 2027 will be largely determined by the actions of two men: Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Otunba Gbenga Daniel. Recent developments have only reinforced that position.
People often get carried away by rented crowds, sponsored propaganda, and loud political noise. But politics—especially Ogun politics—goes far beyond optics. It is about structure, strategy, loyalty, and timing. These are areas where Amosun and Daniel have proven mastery over the years.
Both men understand the game deeply. They know their clusters, they nurture their bases carefully, and their followers are not just supporters—they are loyalists, ready to go the distance. Today, both leaders are contesting senatorial seats in different districts, and it is almost certain they will win. That much is clear.
The real question, however, lies ahead: will Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Otunba Gbenga Daniel eventually endorse the same candidate for the governorship in 2027? If they do, the contest is effectively over. Such an alliance would be overwhelming and decisive.
The political tide has already begun to shift in the last few days, and Ogun State is entering a very interesting phase. All eyes are now on these two political giants and the choices they will make in the coming months.
